Before Your Appointment: Mental Preparation
If this is your first experience with laser therapy, you might feel uncertain. That’s completely normal. BioFlex therapy is painless, non-invasive, and deeply relaxing. Many anxious patients become enthusiastic advocates once they experience it firsthand.
Understand that the laser doesn’t feel hot enough to burn—instead, it creates a gentle warmth that most people find soothing. The experience is quiet, calm, and requires no effort on your part. You’ll simply lie comfortably while the healing happens.
What to Wear
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area. If your knee needs treatment, wear shorts or pants you can roll up. For back or neck treatment, wear a loose shirt. The beauty of laser therapy is that it penetrates through most clothing, so you don’t need to expose large areas of skin unless you’re comfortable doing so.
Physical Preparation
No special physical preparation is needed. Eat normally, but avoid a very large meal immediately before your appointment—comfort during treatment matters. Stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day. Avoid topical products like sunscreen or heavy lotions on the treatment area if possible, as these can interfere with laser light absorption. However, if you have medications you apply topically, don’t skip them—just mention it to Dr. Beth.
Timing Considerations
Arrive 10 minutes early if this is your first appointment. Dr. Beth will likely discuss your symptoms, medical history, and treatment expectations. Subsequent appointments move quickly—20-40 minutes total including the treatment itself.
Avoid strenuous exercise immediately before your appointment. You want to be in a relaxed state so your body can fully benefit from the healing light.
Documentation
Bring your insurance card if you have coverage. Write down any questions you have about the therapy. Note any symptoms you’ve experienced since your last appointment—this helps Dr. Beth optimize your treatment.
Setting Expectations
Understand that laser therapy works gradually. While some people feel immediate relief, others notice improvement over several hours or days. The therapy stimulates your body’s natural healing processes—this takes time. Most people see significant improvement within 3-4 weeks of consistent treatment.
Come with realistic expectations. The laser is powerful, but it works with your body’s healing capacity, not against nature. Patience and consistency yield the best results.
After Your First Session
You might feel relaxed or slightly energized after treatment. Some people feel immediately better, while others notice gradual improvement. There’s no downtime—you can return to normal activities immediately.
Drink extra water after your session. This supports your body’s healing and helps eliminate inflammatory byproducts. Avoid excessive heat (saunas, very hot baths) immediately after treatment—you want your body to work on healing, not cooling down.
Questions to Ask
Don’t hesitate to ask Dr. Beth about your condition, the expected timeline for improvement, what you can do at home to support healing, and when you should expect to see results. Clear communication ensures you’re confident in your treatment plan.
