Before Your Session Begins
When you arrive for your BioFlex laser therapy appointment, you’ll be brought into a comfortable treatment room. Unlike some medical settings, our clinic environment is calm and welcoming. You’ll never feel rushed—we take time to discuss your symptoms and current condition, ensuring the therapy addresses your specific needs.
We’ll ask about pain levels, range of motion changes, and how the previous session went if this isn’t your first appointment. This information helps Dr. Beth optimize your treatment protocol.
Positioning for Treatment
You’ll be positioned comfortably on our treatment table. The laser will be applied directly to the affected area of your body—whether that’s your shoulder, knee, lower back, or elsewhere. You can remain fully clothed; the laser light penetrates through most clothing materials.
We’ll use appropriate eye protection during the session to ensure your eyes aren’t exposed to the laser light, even though BioFlex operates at power levels considered safe. Your comfort and safety are paramount.
The Laser Treatment Experience
The laser applicator will be held against or just above your skin. You’ll feel gentle warmth where the laser is applied—many patients describe it as pleasant and soothing. There’s no pain, no burning sensation, no discomfort whatsoever. The treatment is silent and calm. Some patients find the warmth so relaxing they doze off during sessions.
Sessions typically last 20-40 minutes depending on the treatment area and your condition. During this time, you simply relax. You can close your eyes, breathe deeply, and let your body absorb the healing benefits of the light.
Multiple Treatment Areas
If you have multiple problem areas, we might treat them in sequence. For example, if you have both lower back pain and knee pain, we’ll treat both during your session. The order and time allocation depend on what will most benefit your healing.
What You Might Feel After Treatment
Immediately after treatment, you might feel a subtle warmth in the treated area, which gradually dissipates. Some patients report immediate relief, while others notice improvement over the next few hours or days. There’s no “downtime”—you can return to normal activities immediately. No special care is needed post-treatment.
Hydration and Healing
We recommend drinking plenty of water after your session. Hydration supports your healing processes and helps flush any inflammatory byproducts from your tissue. Many patients make increased water intake a habit during their laser therapy course.
Tracking Your Progress
After each session, we’ll note any changes you report. Are you experiencing less pain? Better range of motion? Improved sleep? These observations help us track whether treatment is effective and whether any protocol adjustments are needed. We’re not just going through motions—we’re carefully monitoring your response and optimizing your results.
Between Sessions
Between appointments, continue any prescribed exercises or home care recommendations. The laser accelerates healing, but your active participation in recovery speeds results. Dr. Beth might recommend ice, heat, stretching, or other supportive care depending on your condition.
How Many Sessions Will You Need?
This varies based on your condition. Acute injuries might need 6-10 sessions, while chronic conditions might require 12-20 or more. Most patients see significant improvement within 3-4 weeks of consistent treatment. Dr. Beth will provide a realistic timeline during your consultation.
